Suwit Stadium

Last night I went to the fights at Suwit stadium which is a small stadium close to the Muay Thai gym.  It was definitely a different experience from Lumpinee.  The stadium itself was a solid building, well lit with a parking lot and cushioned benches.  The VIP seats were armchairs.

The crowd was much smaller, quieter, and a bit less gritty.  Instead of being packed in amongst a bunch of Thai men I was sitting with mainly foreigners like myself.  There are so many Muay Thai gyms around here that there are a lot of farangs interested in watching fights.

There were some groups of Thais down by the ring but I have a feeling most of them were there to support their family members who were fighting.  Most of the fights were between very young boys (they start fighting here around age 6).
There were a lot of people from my gym in the audience and a few on the ticket to fight.  Unfortunately the one girl I had gone to see, an Australian Olympian who has been training at my gym, ended up not fighting.  They had set her up with a small Thai girl and apparently when she saw the Australian she dropped out.  I did see two fights with women though.  Both were against Thai girls and neither seemed to put up much competition.

over them
