Yesterday I traveled to Kuala Lumpur, but before I left I had one last, delicious lunch in Little India.
I had to take a ferry from Penang to Butterworth, which is on the mainland. The ferry is free to the mainland, but I think they charge if you go in the other direction.
I was worried about finding the bus station but it ended up being right by the ferry port and there were plenty of buses leaving to Kuala Lumpur, all around the same price, so I picked one that was leaving in just a few minutes. It was by far the nicest bus that I've been on. The seats even had back massagers!
I got to KL a little after 7. The nice thing about the time change is that the sun doesn't set until late and it was still light out when I arrived. It took me over an hour to find a hostel and I was exhausted by the end. Most of the hostels in Chinatown are on upper floors and by the end I looked for people outside to ask about prices because having to take my shoes off and walk up a flight of stairs with my bag just wasn't that appealing. I finally found a guesthouse where I could share a room with an Italian woman and I took it.
I ventured out into the Chinatown market for dinner. It was crazy, jam packed, not my kind of market at all. They had all of the typical shoes, handbags, electronics, etc., but significantly higher prices, and most of the food was is expensive restaurants.
This is like traveling with you...a joy!
