Saturday

The moat surrounding the older part of the city

A monk working at Wat Chiang Yuen Municipal School

One of the most interesting things I've noticed about Chiang Mai is how the city has just built up around the old temples and buildings.  During my walk on Saturday I found several chedi tucked in next to modern buildings.  There isn't much space inside the city's old walls so people have built almost on top of these old chedi, one had a driveway right next to it.

Tuk tuks lined up in front of Tha Phae gate
I finally made it to Tha Phae gate, one of the most recognizable gates surrounding the old city.
