Sukhothai Historical Park

Songthaews here are much larger than the ones up North
I met a Dutch man, Henk (pronounced 'Hank') at dinner a couple nights ago and we decided to go to the historical park together.  It was nice to have someone to talk to and explore with!

Sukhothai was the first capital of Siam in the 13th century.  The park is split up into several sections and the ruins were amazing!  A lot of them have been reconstructed over the last several decades.

We saw plenty of cattle and cattle herders in the park

Catching snakes!

Huge seated Buddha, the hand is even
larger than me!

We stumbled upon this unique shrine, the walls inside and out were covered in niches, each holding at least one Buddha statue.  On the outside of the temple though there were several statues lined up in each niche, and cemented in... Henk said the place gave him a bad vibe though

A 'real' firetruck!  Most of them here
are pretty boring and just look like
large utility trucks

Awesome standing Buddha on a hill

The view was fantastic!

Monk figurines

The best way to get around Sukhothai is by bicycle since some of the area are several km away.  It's mostly flat so it was a relaxing ride.  (And my feet have been really sore from walking so much so it was a nice change!)
