Chang Khlan Cemetery

Anna and I went exploring the other day.  We went in search of a cemetery right outside the city, not one that is particularly well known or popular, but just the one that was closest when I looked it up on Google.

One the way we found a little park, overgrown with plants.  There were several large plaques? sculptures? at the beginning and benches lining the path that followed the water channel, many of the benches towards the end though were covered in vines and branches.

The channel is on the right, covered
in plants, temple in the background

The path eventually led to a cluster of homes where we found a group of kids playing.

When we got to the cemetery we were surprised to realize that it wasn't a Thai cemetery but a Chinese Muslim one.

We didn't walk in very far because there were gaping holes all over the place.  In another area there were a bunch of grave mounds that looked like they had been formed almost completely above ground so we weren't sure if the graves had been collapsing or if maybe they were moving some of them.  Either way, didn't seem like a good idea to be wandering around in there!

We discovered another mystery next door.  At first we thought it was a temple but upon closer inspection we weren't so sure.  There were two large buildings in the complex, decorated like temples but taller and thinner.  They both had garage doors on them instead of regular doorways and inside, instead of Buddhas there was just a big machine, or possibly a furnace, with a chimney coming out the top.  Since we had just been to the cemetery we speculated that it may be a crematorium but we still don't know.  It's not even on Google!

The back of the property was a large yard with trash
piled up along the back wall

A neat house we found off to one side

    1. Mystery solved! I found a similar building today and after an interesting conversation I have confirmed that it is indeed a crematorium... or at least that is what I'm taking from 'dead people' (complete with a hilarious mime) and 'fire'.
Now I'm just curious why it was in the yard of what appeared to be a school...
